Course Description

“ Vedic mathematics is the science and technology of precision and order, which maintains the integrity of unity and at the same time spreads diversity with it. ”

Abacus and Vedic Maths — two powerful systems that help improve mental math, calculation speed, and concentration.

🧮 1. Abacus

🔹 What is an Abacus?

An Abacus is a simple counting tool with rods and beads, used for performing arithmetic calculations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

It was used thousands of years ago in countries like China, Japan, and Greece, and is still taught today to develop mental math skills — especially for children.

🔹 How It Works

Each bead on the abacus represents a value (ones, tens, hundreds, etc.).
Students learn to move the beads to perform calculations.

With practice, they start to visualize the beads in their mind — this is called mental abacus or visual calculation.

🔹 Benefits of Abacus

✅ Improves mental arithmetic
✅ Enhances concentration and memory
✅ Develops right-brain creativity and left-brain logic
✅ Builds confidence in handling numbers
✅ Helps kids develop photographic memory (visual imagination)

🧠 2. Vedic Maths

🔹 What is Vedic Maths?

Vedic Mathematics is an ancient Indian system of calculation derived from the Vedas (specifically the Atharva Veda).
It was rediscovered by Sri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji in the early 20th century.

It includes 16 Sutras (formulas) and 13 Sub-Sutras (sub-formulas) that make math faster and simpler.

🔹 Examples of Vedic Maths Tricks

➕ Addition & Subtraction:

Do calculations mentally by using patterns and complements.

Example:
987 + 789 →
(987 + 800) – 11 = 1776

✖️ Multiplication (Nikhilam Sutra – “All from 9 and the last from 10”)

Example: Multiply 97 × 98
→ Base = 100
→ (97 × 98) = (97 – 2)(98 – 3) = 9,506

² Square of numbers ending in 5 (Formula: n × (n+1) and add 25)

Example: 35² = (3×4) & 25 = 1225

🔹 Benefits of Vedic Maths

✅ Increases calculation speed (5–10 times faster)
✅ Builds mental agility and focus
✅ Reduces math anxiety
✅ Helps in competitive exams and mental calculation contests
✅ Improves memory and logical thinking

🏁 Conclusion

  • Abacus builds strong foundation and concentration for young learners.
  • Vedic Maths enhances mental speed and accuracy — ideal for older students and adults.
👉 Together, they form a powerful combo for mastering numbers and brain development.
